Stornoway Gazette, 5 April 1940
We in Callanish take this opportunity of expressing our sympathy with Wardie's mother in her recent sore and sad bereavement. When word was received on the 25th March that Angus Beaton, RNR, of 12 Breasclete, familiarly known to us all as Wardie, had been accidentally killed in the execution of his duty, a deep gloom was cast over, not only his native Breasclete but Callanish as well, for he was known to all. Angus was born 41 years ago, and throughout his life he bore an honest, spotless character. His sterling qualities and exceptionally good nature won for him the admiration of all who came in touch with him.
