Norman Macdonald, 19 Upper Bayble

Stornoway Gazette, 2 February 1940
Seaman Norman Macdonald, son of Norman Macdonald of 19 Upper Bayble, locally known as Tormod Thormoid Tobha, was lost on the Exmouth at the age of 19. He volunteered last June for the Naval Review and was immediately drafted to HMS Exmouth on which ship he was lost when she was sunk on 21 January. Norman was a quiet, unassuming lad, who was always ready to help his neighbours and greet each and all with a smile. The sympathy of the community goes out to his father and stepmother in their sore bereavement.
