Stornoway Gazette, 30 January 1942
The small village of Brue has once again been cast into gloom by the sad news that one fo its sons, William Maclean (Uilleam Challum) has lost his life on active service. For the past number of years we saw little of William, who had made his home in Bayble, Point, and who even before the outbreak of war had made the sea his calling, which he followed almost constantly. Yet we, in his native village, regarded him as one of ourselves, for he grew up with us and with his happy, guileless and affectionate manner endeared himself to all of us. The news of his death came as a great shock to us, and particularly to his widowed mother, brothers and sisters here, to whom as well as to his widow and young family at Bayble, the heartfelt sympathy of the community is extended in their sore bereavement.
